1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sees First Daylight in 50 Years

On June 15, 2007, a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere buried in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the 1957 Tulsarama! was freed from its concrete vault under the Tulsa Courthouse lawn. None other than Boyd Coddington and Crew were there to assist Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor, Tulsarama co-chair Sharon King Davis and legendary Tulsan John Erlin with the proceedings.

Of course, everything led up to the car’s unburial and unveiling, and to answer the 50 year old questions; “Did the car survive?” and “Who won the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere?” (Raymond E. Humbertson). Want to see how the car survived? Available here are photos of the car’s unburial, transport and unveiling at the Tulsa Convention Center.

Where is the Miss Belvedere now? The car is at Ultra One in Hackettstown, New Jersey going through a very time consuming de-rusting procedure. For more information, videos and such on that project, be sure to visit their web site by clicking here.

The photos contained in this site were taken for an article I prepared for the Autographic Publishing Company, Inc.’s publication called the Automotive Report. If you’d like, you can download a PDF of the article’s two pages as it appeared in print by clicking here.
